November 2019, GTC has received a US Army award titled “Uniform Dispersion and Alignment of Short Fiber Composite Reinforcement.” This project refines a novel technique for the fabrication of short fiber composites with high fiber volume ratios. The challenge is to uniformly disperse and align these fibers to allow for superior strength similar to long/continuous fiber composites, yet with the flexibility of being stamped and formed into complex shapes. Materials like these will help produce lighter military and commercial vehicles without compromising safety.
